Watch Passing, a new short film by visually impaired artist Jo Bannon. You’ll see Augusto, a sleight-of-hand magician, and Sindri, a visually impaired dancer, as they unveil the magic of their hands and movements. Guided by Jo’s offbeat humour and ongoing fascination with objects, Passing beckons you to peek behind a pink velvet curtain.
The film explores the ways in which we all perform – on stage and in everyday life. It experiments with sensory modes of seeing, including ASMR sound design and close-up choreographies to disrupt the primacy of the visual sense. It’s 15 minutes long and will show continually throughout the day. You can drop in and out at any time. This is the audio-described version of the film, and sound will be through wireless headphones.
Passing is one third of Jo’s Blind Magic triptych, exploring the crip-expertise and everyday performance of ‘passing' that visually impaired people employ to navigate a world designed for sighted people.
The event is free. Find out more via Wellcome Collection’s website.
