Sleight of Hand - One to one

  • Wellcome Collection 183 Euston Road London, England, NW1 2BE United Kingdom (map)
Three sets of white hands poke out from underneath a pink, velvet curtain, resting on a table of the same material. One hand is turned upwards, one on the table concealing a coin, and the other balances a coin on its index finger.

Participate in an intimate, one-to-one, tactile performance of Sleight of Hand with visually impaired artist Jo Bannon.

Sleight of Hand – One to One explores what we can discover if we loosen our grip on the visual and let our other senses wander. It integrates audio description, choreography and an immersive ASMR soundscape. The installation makes up one third of Jo's Blind Magic triptych, exploring the crip-expertise and everyday performance of ‘passing' that visually impaired people employ to navigate a world designed for sighted people.

This is a bespoke solo version of the larger group participatory installation by Jo Bannon with the same name. While you’re at Wellcome Collection, why not drop into see Jo Bannon’s new film Passing which will be running continually throughout the day.

The event is free. Book a space via Wellcome’s website.
