This policy is a statement of attitude. It’s a living document that we will update, change and adapt in response to our experience and the experiences of the artists and producers we work with.

This year marks MAYK’s tenth anniversary.

To celebrate, we worked with our long-term collaborator and friend Dan Canham to create this film looking back on ten fantastic years and ahead to the next chapter.

Earlier this year we launched a brand new collaboration with Bristol Pride in which we invited LGBTQ+ artists and companies based in Bristol to send us ideas for a new early-stage research and development co-commission.

The response was amazing and as diverse as the communities from which the ideas arose. It was a joy to read all the proposals and to chat with an inspiring shortlist of artists.

We’re excited to announce that we have awarded the commission to Bristol-based multi-disciplinary dance artist Tim Lo.

Mayfest 2022 returns next year, and we are looking for an experienced producer to join the delivery team - an exciting opportunity to help bring the festival to arts venues and sites across Bristol.

We’re thrilled to announce MAYKING Space – a new rehearsal and development space dedicated to artists making and exploring live performance. Our hope with this new venture is that this space will become a lively and welcoming part of Bristol’s creative community. And beyond.

We’re looking for an Assistant Producer to join our team. You don’t have to have done any producing before, but we would like you to have an interest in arts and culture – whether that’s live performance, music, films, game, visual art and so on.

A hundred years ago in the before times, we started hatching ideas for a MAYK hosted/held/curated space that would offer a collaborative support structure for a new generation of artists and creative thinkers. One that wasn’t about hierarchical notions of training, and that could exist without an outcome focus.

We’re looking for a Marketing and Digital Communications Manager to work across both MAYK and Paraorchestra in a new shared role.

We’re thrilled to be moving into a new home at St Anne’s House in Brislington, the new creative and cultural hub being led by the excellent Bricks.

I’ve lived with chronic pain for 14 years, and that means I need to lie down (a lot). For a while my world got really small. And so in 2016 I began to play with lying down in public so I could be out in the world more: I lay down on trains, in galleries, on benches. I was beginning to feel bold about this ‘practice’ of public rest, and the shame I’d felt at having different needs and needing to navigate the world differently was beginning to fall away......and then I set off a security alert by lying down on the 6th Floor of the Southbank Centre (during a disability arts festival!).
