MAYK to develop new project between Bristol, Kigali and Kampala

MAYK is delighted to have been awarded funding through British Council East Africa's new Arts new Audiences programme to develop a new collaborative project (with the working title Out of the Blue) that will take place between Bristol (UK), Kigali (Rwanda) and Kampala (Uganda).

The project, which will be developed in Spring/Summer 2017, will see an artist from each of the three cities commissioned to collaboratively create a new live performance work to be performed in each of the cities simultaneously, using digital technology to provide a link between each location.

MAYK's partners on the project will be Ubumuntu Festival in Kigali and Theatre Factory in Uganda.

Ubumuntu Festival is led by Hope Azeda, a major figure in contemporary Rwandan theatre, and is held annually following the last week of the 100 days commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. It is held at the outdoor amphitheater of the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and brings different artists from around the world to convene in Kigali Rwanda.

Theatre Factory is led by Philip Luswata and is one of Uganda's leading theatre and film producing companies.
