Mayfest 2022 is Pay-What-You-Can
This year, Mayfest is adopting a pay-what-you-can model for tickets to every performance and element of the programme, with a minimum price of £1. Here’s why:
- We believe everyone should have access to brilliant theatre and live performance. Through removing ticket price as a barrier we hope to open up the festival to a wider audience than ever before.
- The past two years have been difficult for everyone financially. People have lost work, seen their industries decimated, and experienced income decline whilst at the same time being squeezed by the spiralling cost of living. At a time when life can seem more atomised and isolating than ever, we want Mayfest 2022 to be an opportunity for people to gather and experience the joy of being together, regardless of financial circumstances. We are inviting everyone to make a decision on how much to pay based on what they can afford and their own financial circumstances.
Each performance will have a recommended price. If you are able to afford to pay this or a higher price, then you are keeping the festival affordable for those whose circumstances mean a lower price is more realistic.
All purchases will incur a booking fee charged by the ticketing agent which will add to the overall cost of a ticket. We have sought to mitigate this by partnering with Headfirst Bristol, an independent ticketing platform who charge a booking fee that is significantly lower than other platforms.
