Join MAYK’s team as our new Marketing and Digital Communications Manager
There are now just a few days left to apply to join MAYK’s team as Marketing and Digital Communications Manager.
It’s a part-time position (2.5 days per week, not necessarily contiguous) and the salary is £32.5k pro rata.
We know from experience that most people tend to submit an application within the closing days of the recruitment window, and so if you need some extra impetus to apply then here are some quick reflections about working with MAYK and why it’s good written by me, Ben, the person who currently holds the post:
Nice and kind colleagues
MAYK’s core team is comprised of five people: Co-Directors Matthew & Kate, Senior Producer Hattie, Company Manager Danny, and soon, hopefully, you.
MAYK’s team are generous, interesting individuals who take what we do very seriously but conduct themselves with a sense of curiosity, gentleness and openness that feels pretty unique to the organisation.
It’s not a weird saccharine ‘more-like-a-family’ vibe at all but it’s rare for meetings to not finish with smiles and laughter.
This makes for an atmosphere that’s very conducive to creative problem-solving and makes even tough conversations feel totally surmountable. I’ve never felt as if I can’t ask for help with something.
I’d recommend reading our Chair Anna Starkey’s recent blog as they have articulated this much better than I can but what I am driving at is this: MAYK is comprised of good people who are a pleasure to work with.
Work that means something
Speaking of ‘the work’ – as MAYK’s marketing & comms lead, the nuts-and-bolts stuff – wrangling assets, writing copy and social posts – is just a small part of what you’ll be doing.
Just as vital (and more interesting, in my opinion) is the storytelling side of things - collaborating with MAYK’s producing team and the artists themselves to find ways to show as well as tell, and to share work and ideas that are still taking shape.
Sometimes the process of communicating about new pieces can feel like a struggle against being reductive, as if you are trying to take an idea that is massive and shiny and turn it into something more digestible. Not so here.
The artists MAYK have a producing relationship with are numerous and amazing and often creating lots of different interlinked projects at any given time. This job necessarily requires you to inhabit these worlds and doing so feels like a real privilege.
Where it happens
MAYK’s office is a bright, quiet space on the third floor at the back of St. Anne’s House, which is a friendly, buzzy creative community just south of Bristol’s city centre.
Out the window we can see a big escarpment that is basically the height of the building – I think it’s an old quarry face – covered in trees and greenery with tonnes of birds and critters hopping about. It seems like a small thing, but having spent my fair share of time in hellish fake-foliage-desk-beer co-working spaces being able to get a face-full of nature every day is something I really appreciate.
Next door to us is the MAYKING Space, which welcomes a rotating cast of artists and companies working up performances of all shapes and sizes. It’s a lovely dynamic having our peaceful office here and this febrile creative space just feet away and there is something really energising about being into proximity to so many exciting developing projects.
In conclusion: apply for this job. Doing so is a pretty light-touch process and if you’re offered an interview you’ll be sent the questions in advance.
Could change your life!
