Echoes of Sanctum

One year ago, we opened the doors of Theaster Gates’ SANCTUM in the ruin of Temple Church in Bristol and for 24 days, 24 hours a day, the city listened and performed as never before.

So, from 29th October - 21st November, along with Situations, we're looking back and celebrating some of the most memorable moments and what happened next.

SANCTUM brought together over 700 performers from Bristol and beyond. We watched as the space filled with audiences of varying sizes, engaging with singer-songwriters and musicians, beat poets and flash fiction, heavy metal and electronic soundscapes, community choirs and punk bands, theatre-makers and writers, who all sustained the sound over 552 hours.

Whether you helped out, performed or watched share your memories of SANCTUM with us by using the hashtag #EchoesofSanctum.

“It’s about re-imagining what’s invisible” - Theaster Gates. Read Christopher D Shea on SANCTUM in The New York Times

Our friends at BCfm have also been catching up with some of the performers to hear about their experiences and find out where they are now. Tune in to the One Love Breakfast Show throughout November to hear more.
