Demostage is back

You may remember that a couple of years ago we had a little event called Demostage, that we ran quarterly. It was a platform for new ideas – not a scratch night, but an informal environment where artists could share their thinking about a new project, or something they were stuck on, or a wild idea that needed some other brains to make sense of it.

We pressed pause on Demostage for a while. But as we can’t all meet in person for a while, we thought we’d bring it back, this time on Zoom. The format will remain the same – presenters have five minutes to share their idea/provocation/problem and then the audience have five minutes to offer up suggestions, questions, provocations in response.

It works because it’s a zippy format that encourages conversation and that usually results in the presenters going away with a head full of ideas and suggestions, and the audience feeling useful and inspired.

We think we’ve figured out a way to make it work over Zoom, but you know, it’ll be an experiment too, so let’s see!

If you’d like to present an idea click here, and if you’d like to join as an audience member, sign up here. Demostage will take place on Thursday 25 June from 8pm.

Demostage is a concept created by Dustin Harvey's Secret Theatre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dustin very kindly open-sourced the idea for us and we debuted Demostage Bristol at Mayfest 2016.  You can find out more about Secret Theatre here: xosecret.org
